AGU Holds Annual Blood Donation Drive

Students of the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) recently organised the annual blood donation drive, in cooperation with the Students Affairs Deanship in the university.
The campaign came as part of the efforts dedicated to strengthening AGU’s social roles and responsibilities, by extending a helping hand and support to patients and healthcare institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
On the occasion, Social Supervisor at the Deanship Ms. Aisha Al Subai’ee commented: “This year’s campaign was organised in coordination with the King Hamad University Hospital and Salmaniya Medical Complex. It witnessed exceptional turnout and interaction from AGU staff members and students, in addition to many donors from outside the university, stressing on the noble and humanitarian goals the campaign is annually held for. This resulted in collecting 100 blood bags in one day.”
Ms. Al Subai’ee noted that the campaign is considered as practical training for medicine students who interactively participated in it and took part in the preparations for organising the campaign.
On the day of the campaign, and throughout the day, the participating students were closely educated about the methods and techniques of blood examination, as well as sorting the acceptable and valid blood samples. They also examined the samples and learnt about the steps followed to detect diabetes, hypertension and other diseases in the samples.
