His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah relayed the greetings of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council, Ruler of Sharjah, and President of the University of Sharjah, to the President of Xi’an International University and its leaders. This was during the opening ceremony of the Arabic Language Center at XISU’s School of Oriental Studies in the Shaanxi Province in China under the supervision of the University of Sharjah. This Center is the first of its kind in China.
In his address on the occasion, His Excellency expressed his pleasure in establishing the Arabic Language Center at XISU under the supervision of the University of Sharjah. He added that this Center represents the splendor of the University not solely for extending the vision of His Highness for the University to the East, but because it mainly represents the expansion Arab and Islamic identity and history especially in China.
He stated that for this reason, the University of Sharjah and all feel the immense significance of the establishment of this Center at XISU for teaching the Arabic Language – the language of the Holy Qur’an.
The Chancellor gave a brief about the University and its recent accomplishments in comparison to other universities. He stated that the University of Sharjah is a great fit to spreading the Arab and Islamic culture and history established by His Highness in 1997 as a beacon of science and knowledge. The University, he added, is continuously expanding and developing following the directions of H.H. to ensure success on the international level. To accomplish this goal, H.H. personally made sure to establish cooperation agreements and partnerships with a number of international universities, institutes, and centers.
The University is consistently reaping the benefits of these agreements and partnerships and has established a name for itself as a pioneering, and outstanding university on the regional and international levels. It has also established itself as one of the most comprehensive universities in the UAE in terms of the number of students and programs offered, which has reached a 100 accredited academic programs in various fields and academic levels, as well as its increasing number of centers and institutes of scientific research and academic excellence.
He remarked, regarding the establishment of its Arabic Language Center at XISU, that the University of Sharjah in keeping with its cooperation agreement with XISU has curriculums and experts for teaching the Arabic language to non-native speakers who will follow well-studied academic and practical plans to support this project. This project will have its equivalent at the University of Sharjah through its Center for Continuing Education and Professional Development.
His Excellency ended his address stressing that the University of Sharjah will ensure to fulfill its role according to the best practices and morals of the Arab and Islamic culture.
For his part, the President of XISU gave a speech during which he expressed his gratitude for the University of Sharjah and its President His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and its administration for their efforts to ensure seamless cooperation and partnership on this project. A project, he added, that aims to spread the Arabic language and teach it to the Chinese students.
The President of XISU remarked that this project is the first of its kind in China in support of the Silk Road network and encouraged the first batch of the Center’s students to be ambassadors of China to the Arab and Islamic countries.
The President then accompanied His Excellency and the delegation on a tour of XISU’s lecture halls at the School of Oriental Studies.
Attending the opening ceremony from the University of Sharjah were His Excellency the Chancellor of the University accompanied by Dr. Salah Taher, Vice Chancellor of Community Affairs; Prof. Abdul Sahib Mehdi Ali, Acting Dean of the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences; and Dr. Tarek Merabtene, Acting Director of the Office of International Relations. From XISU’s side, its President Prof. Wang Junzhe attended the ceremony along with the Vice President, the Dean of the School of Oriental Studies, the Deputy Inspector of Higher Education in the Shaanxi Province, and the first batch of Chinese students enrolled in the Arabic Language program.
