GUST celebrated the occasion of the National & Liberation Days with week-long festivities organized by the Office of Student Life, in collaboration with the Student Association.
All festivities were attended by GUST’s President, Professor Walid Bouhamra, BOT members, GUST management including VP of Academic Affairs, Dr. Ali Ansari, Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Raghad Al-Kazemi, and HR Director, Nawaf Al-Khalaf, as well as crowds of students, staff, and faculty; all to show their support.
The week started kicked off with the National Anthem & Flag Ceremony led by the Ruwwad Business Club. The ceremony was followed by a beautiful national performance by the Kuwait Jon Girls Elementary. The events of the day ended with a seminar shedding light on the heroic acts of the Gulf War resistance heroes. Saleh al-Saleh, Saad Sharar, Ameer Bin Eid, and Faisal Al-Thuwaini shared their powerful story that would go down in Kuwait’s history.
Day two of GUST’s National & Liberation Days Celebrations included another flag ceremony attended by the university’s BOT and management, who then also took a walk through the Media Club’s Kuwait History Maze built by the club members themselves, at the GUST amphitheater. The Music Club provided an entertaining afternoon by bringing in a special traditional band performance for everyone to enjoy. The English Club ended day with a lot of nostalgia with their screening of the renowned play ‘Saif Al-Arab’.
Tuesday was the highlight event of the week, where GUST’s Tribute to Kuwait was showcased with the launch of a new national song and stage piece. The peice was dedicated to our beloved country, its Amir, Crown Prince, and the people of Kuwait. The event was attended by H.E. Ambassador to the United States, Lawrence Silverman, GUST Board of Trustees members, President Professor Walid Bouhamra, GUST management, and large crowds of students, staff, and faculty. Wednesday was another exciting day with the Club of the Year Awards Ceremony, where the HD Club was announced Club of the Year due to their dedication to organizing unique events. The Social Club Award was given to the Islamic Finance Club. Different students, staff, and faculty were honored as well for their participation in the organization of this entire week’s festivities. This day also encompassed and outstanding performance by our talented Music Club members, where they played different renditions of popular songs. The day ended on an inspirational note in a lecture led by Haya Al-Shatti on Women’s Role in Humanity, which was organized by the HR Club.
The final day of the week held a very special event which was the Ministry of Defence Band performance, which was a sight to see! Over 26 men were dressed in uniform and played live instruments for the GUST community. The event was attended by GUST BOT members, President, management, and special guests Ministry of Defence Languages School Commander, Colonel Ahmad Mohammad Dashti, and Ambassador of Canada H.E. Mr. Louis-Pierre Emond. Our VIP guests were also given a tour of our campus, including library, bookstore, gymnasium, the Media Club Kuwait History Maze, and the renowned Gulf Financial Center.
There were also a myriad of activities led by different student clubs that were taking place throughout the week including games by Anime Club, decorate your own cake by the Student Association, Q&A competitions by the Marketing Club, Kuwait flag stands by the Marketing club, and caricature drawing by the Human Rights Club.
