Positive Interaction With AGU’s Gifted & Talented Programme

The Medical Students Gifted and Talented Programme has witnessed huge interaction from students since it was launched by the Arabian Gulf University (AGU) last week. The College of Medicine and Medical Sciences confirmed that a total of 20 students of both genders have registered for the programme so far, adding that more are expected to sign up until the registration period ends on February 13, 2019.
AGU President Dr. Khalid bin Abdulrahman Al Ohaly said the innovative programme is the first of its kind in the region, with the aim of providing a three-year comprehensive programme for the students of the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences in the university. Dr. Al Ohaly emphasised that the programme was founded to enrich the talented and gifted students’ experiences at the university. He also affirmed that it will give them the opportunity to deepen their analytic and research skills, while at the same time, experience new challenges that would assist them in expanding their knowledge capacity, and encourage them to be innovative and creative in the medical field; on clinical and research levels.
Supervising the programme are Assistant Professor of Talented and Innovative Education in the College of Graduate Studies Dr. Ahmed Al Abbasi and Assistant Professor in the Surgery Department in the College of Medicine and Medical Sciences Dr. Ahmed Al Ansari. Commenting on the registration stage of the programme, Dr. Al Abbasi said the accepted applicants have successfully completed all the necessary requirements, tests and procedures. He also clarified that the tests were conducted under the supervision of experts of medical sciences and talents.
On his part, Dr. Al Ansari stated that the programme comes in line with the endeavours of AGU to develop and introduce innovative academic programmes on regional and international levels. It’s noteworthy that the Medical Students Gifted and Talented Programme aims to achieve several educational outcomes, including graduating research students who are capable of conducting scientific research by publishing at least three scientific researches, in cooperation with reputed international research establishments. All students who successfully pass the programme will be handed over approved certificates from AGU and one of the research centres.
