The University of Bahrain has continued to rank first in Bahrain in research production for the year 2018. According to Scopus, a bibliographic database of abstracts and citations for academic journal articles, UoB has produced about 52 per cent of internationally published refereed papers in top journals in the kingdom of Bahrain; approximately 130 papers out of 250 as of August 1, 2018.
Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings.
‘The increase in scientific research is an integral part of the University’s strategic plan. Focusing on specialized research projects would achieve sustainable development and successfully meet the challenges of the future in the Kingdom, the region and beyond,’ said Prof. Riyad Y. Hamzah, President of the University of Bahrain.
According to the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Scientific research at the University, the College of Science has published 55 refereed papers, followed by the College of Engineering with 25 papers. The College of Information Technology came third place with 17 papers, and t
hen the College of Business Administration with 16 papers.
‘Both faculty members and postgraduate students are encouraged to conduct research which focuses on issues of national and regional significance such as renewable energy and water and food safety,’ commented Prof. Hamzah
He stressed that the University would continue to adopt successful strategies for developing a culture of research and increasing levels of research productivity. It would also continue to offer a wide range of support for research staff.
Dr. Mohammed Redha Qadar, Dean of Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, said that the number of internationally published refereed papers in top journals has increased over the last two years. Since the establishment of the University of Bahrain, more than 7500 peer-reviewed journal papers have been published.
As the only university in the Kingdom of Bahrain to be ranked in the world’s 1000 top universities, the University of Bahrain has recently ranked higher in the QS World University Rankings 2018.
