THE UNIVERSITY OF SHARJAH SIGNS A COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH THE INTERNATIONAL ATOMIC ENERGY AGENCY (IAEA) IN VIENNA

Commissioned by His Excellency Prof. Hamid M.K. Al Naimiy, Chancellor of the University of Sharjah, the Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies at the University Prof. Maamar Bettayeb signed a cooperation agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Vienna. This agreement aims to build a foundation for cooperation between the University and the Agency, which is one of the most influential and significant international entities in the field of atomic energy. Representing the University during the agreement signing with Dr. Dohee Hahn, Director of IAEA Division of Nuclear Power was Dr. Walid A. Metwally, Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering.

This agreement reflects the UAE’s increasing interest in safe use of nuclear energy as it is interconnected

with the medical, industrial, agricultural and environmental fields.

Earlier this year, The Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering at the University hosted a workshop on simulating nuclear generators organized by the IAEA. Attending the workshop were 20 specialists in the nuclear fields from the United Arab Emirates, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Jordan, and Eastern Asia countries. Following the workshops success, the University and the IAEA started discussing a cooperation agreement.
